Structure and essence

Structure describes how components are put together to make a complex entity. Essence is the inherent fundamental nature of an entity. We naturally think of the essence of a complex structure as determined in part by the essence of its components. A steel bridge is strong because of how it is put together and the strength of steel used to build it.
